Valentine’s Day Heart Treat Pocket Tutorial

pin_it_button-3687677 Yesterday I made these adorable heart-shaped treat pockets to hang on my daughters’ bedroom doors on Valentine’s Day.  I think these would be fun for children to decorate and fill with candy for their school parties. Or simply to use as pocket envelopes for their valentines.  The pockets are constructed from two different pieces card stock, utilizing both the front and back sides of the paper, which makes it an ideal craft for double-sided scrapbooking paper. Imagine the mixing and matching possibilities!

  • solid and/or patterned card stock
  • scissors
  • X-Acto knife
  • ruler
  • scrapbooking adhesive or glue stick
  • embellishments for decorating pocket
  • ribbon or cord (optional)
  • hole punch (optional)

I’ve created a template which can be downloaded below.  You are going to cut it out and trace around it, so print it on heavy card stock.  Make sure Scale is set to 100% when you print.

craftimentsvalentinesdayheartpockettemplate-8500380 Trace the template two times on your chosen paper(s) to get get the two halves of your heart pocket.  Solid card stock or double sided scrapbooking paper work wonderfully. Don’t forget to mark where the fold will be.  Cut them out. craftimentsvalentinesdaytreatpocket2-9943629 Line your ruler up with the fold line and lightly score with an X-Acto knife. Fold along the score. craftimentsvalentinesdaytreatpocket3-4022157 Lay the two halves of your heart, one on top of the other, at a 90 degree angle. The fold of the right half of the heart should line up with the edge of the left half of the heart, and vice versa.  Glue them together. craftimentsvalentinesdaytreatpocket4-5521663 Fold over the pocket piece of the half of the heart that is laying directly on the table.  Then fold over the other pocket piece and glue them together. craftimentsvalentinesdaytreatpocket5-9560984 Decorate your heart pocket.  I added tiny paper rosettes and my daughters’ names. Some other embellishment ideas:  stickers, glitter, buttons, bits of lace or fabric, paper doilies, ribbon and ric-rac. craftimentsvalentinesdaytreatpocket6-3833079 If you plan to hang your pocket, punch two holes and attach a piece of ribbon or cord. craftimentsvalentinesdaytreatpocket7-4295280 Then fill it up with treats for your sweet Valentine! craftimentsvalentin2527sdayhearttreatpocket-7550948
